STAY IN EARNSCLEUGH CASTLE'S COACH HOUSE

Escape to History

Just a short drive from the rugged beauty of Clyde, Earnscleugh Castle offers more than just boutique accommodation in Central Otago, it’s a step back in time. From its roots as a gold rush-era sheep station to the grand, unfinished “Jacobethan” manor built by original owner Stephen Spain, this Category 1 Heritage New Zealand-listed treasure stands as a proud symbol of ambition, resilience, and frontier spirit.

Today, new owners Ryan Sanders and Marco Creemers are carefully restoring this remarkable legacy and warmly invite you to stay in historic accommodation, and experience its unique charm and the natural wonders of the region.

A Historic Property Reborn

VIEW HISTORY TIMELINE

Step inside the Coach House, a charming 1920s retreat originally built for Stephen Spain’s father, who found the castle’s grand stairs too daunting. This humble yet cozy haven also housed the station’s resilient workers battling the infamous rabbit plagues, sharing the same spirit of endurance and frontier dreams as the castle itself. Today, the Coach House has been reinvented once again, offering premium historic accommodation for visitors to Central Otago.
