Earnscleugh Castle is a Category 1 Heritage New Zealand-listed “Jacobethan” manor in Clyde, Central Otago, originally built in the 1920s by runholder Stephen Spain. The Earnscleugh Castle Coach House has been converted into a stunning heritage stay, with the aim of becoming the best boutique stay in Clyde, New Zealand.
Why is the property protected under a Category 1 Heritage listing?
This prestigious protection recognises Earnscleugh Castle outstanding historical and architectural value, from its rare “Jacobethan” style, uncommon for a sheep station, to its role in Central Otago’s pastoral saga. As a cultural treasure tied to the region’s gold rush and economic challenges, it preserves a unique slice of New Zealand’s frontier legacy for future generations. It is currently being lovingly transformed into luxury accommodation for regional visitors.
Who owns Earnscleugh Castle now?
Ryan Sanders and Marco Creemers purchased the property in 2022. They’re passionately restoring this heritage icon while honouring its legacy, which has been filmed for a 2026 TV production. When restorations are complete, Earnscleugh Castle will provide historic accommodation suitable for family trips, weekend trips for couples and those seeking boutique Alexandra accommodation.
What TV production is filming the renovation?
We are unable to say but will release details as soon as we are allowed though we can say the show will be aired in 2026. We are extremely excited to share how we have transformed this beautiful piece of New Zealand heritage into premium Central Otago luxury accommodation.
When are the renovations due to be completed?
The internal renovations are due to be completed by the end of 2025.

Can I visit or tour the Castle during restoration?
We appreciate the public’s interest in our renovation. Once renovations are complete, we will be running open days for the public in support of a local charity. Details will provided in early 2026.

Yes, you can stay at the freshly renovated Coach House for a luxurious heritage stay experience.
What is the nightly rate to stay at the Coach House?
The nightly rate is a variable rate based on demand and whether it’s high or low season. Simply click “Book Now” on the Coach House page, enter the dates you would like to stay, and the price will be shown. Please note, during peak season and the weekends, a minimum 2 nightly stay may apply.
What is the Coach House?
The Coach House is a beautifully refurbished 3-bedroom guesthouse within a 30-acre block originally part of Earnscleugh Station. The property was the workers’ quarters and coach house. This luxury accommodation boasts historic charm with modern comforts, making it an ideal base for exploring Central Otago. How do I book the Coach House?

What are the check-in and check-out times for the Coach House?
Check-in at Earnscleugh Castle is from 2pm, and check-out is at 10am. As a premier boutique stay, Clyde, New Zealand, we strive for flexibility. Please contact us if you require an earlier check-in or later check-out.
What is the cancellation policy for the Coach House?
At our Central Otago luxury accommodation we offer the following cancellation policy: full refund if cancelled 5 days before arrival, or 50% refund for cancellations 48 hours in advance. Refer to your booking confirmation for specifics, as some rates could include different cancellation terms.
How many guests can the Coach House accommodate?
The Coach House comfortably sleeps 6 guests across 3 bedrooms, making it perfect for family trips, a romantic weekend getaway for couples or small groups. Additional guests may be accommodated upon request.
Is the Coach House pet-friendly?
Our two friendly French Bulldogs, Jake and George, roam the property. If you’d prefer they stay away from the Coach House, just let us know.
They share the estate with our Valais sheep, which you can hand-feed (contact us to arrange). You may also spot pheasants and quail wandering freely. For these reasons, we can’t accommodate guest pets, even though we’re animal lovers ourselves
