Step into the Fraser Suite and feel the quiet grandeur of this beautifully restored space. Named in honour of Sir William Fraser, the pioneering Otago statesman who established Earnscleugh Station on the very river that borders the castle today. As a long-serving Member of Parliament for Wakatipu, Minister of Public Works, Mines and Industries, and later Knighted for his service, Sir William Fraser played a pivotal role in shaping Central Otago’s early development.
The suite blends original heritage features – including the beautifully restored antique wardrobe topped with a vintage trunk and a charming hidden safe – with soft, elegant furnishings in warm neutral tones and rich textures. Olive-green walls with subtle period patterning are crowned by a magnificent white ornate ceiling with intricate plasterwork and two glowing brass chandeliers that cast a warm, golden light across the room.
Two sets of tall timber French doors framed by dramatic burgundy and cream floral curtains open directly onto the large shared western balcony, where you can linger in the afternoon sun with a glass of house wine while enjoying uninterrupted views west to the dramatic Old Man Range and the winding Fraser River that borders the property.
Below, the castle’s pool, sauna, spa and timber decks create a serene wellness oasis that feels like your own private wellness retreat. The super-king bed (which can be configured as two generous singles) while the thoughtfully designed seating area is perfect for enjoying pre-dinner charcuterie before stepping out onto the balcony to watch the sun set.
